Previewing the Pitching Rotation for the 2023 Baseball Season.
The Georgia Bulldogs are gearing up to kick off the 2023 baseball campaign on February 17th. One of the biggest questions of this year’s team is which pitchers will step up. Jaden Woods, Liam Sulivan, and Nolan Crisp are the three guys you can pencil in for the starters. However, all three of those guys will need to step up this upcoming season if the Bulldogs want to be competitive.
Jaden Woods is a junior lefty that has shown flashes of what he can do on the mound. His fastball sits around 95-97 MPH and complements that with a really nice slider. Last season opponents hit .277 off of Woods which has this coaching staff excited this season. Nolan Crisp is the next name that UGA fans should be familiar with. He pitched 45.2 innings last season until his season got cut short due to a tricep injury. He is fully healthy and will be at the center of attention of this Georgia pitching. He too will also need to cut down on home runs just like most of the pitchers on this bulldogs roster will. He allowed 11 total home runs, including three straight starts where he gave up 2 home runs. The final starter that I will talk about is Liam Sulivan. He also missed a good amount of time last season and that time off never allowed him to truly get into his groove. Sullivan has a nasty curveball that is accompanied by a mid 90’s fastball. He pitched 48.2 innings last season and also allowed double-digit home runs (10).
So that is the starting rotation, now let’s look at this Bulldogs bullpen. Jaden Woods was the go-to guy out of the pen last season, but now that he is on the bump starting the Dawgs will need to lean on some of the transfers they brought in this off-season. Those names consist of Pace Mercer from ABAC college recorded a 2-1 record last year with a 7.66 ERA and 20 strikeouts. The next transfer the Bulldogs brought in was Dalton Rhadans from Wofford who had a 7-4 record and a 3.72 ERA. Zach DeVito is coming in from Tulane college. As a sophomore last season, he recorded a 4-1 record with a 4.02 ERA. Finally to wrap up the transfers is Kyle Greenler. He put up a 4-2 record with a 2.93 ERA. Overall pitching coach Sean Kenny and head skipper Scott Stricklin really like this group of guys that they brought in and feel like they will give the Bulldogs a very solid bullpen this upcoming season.
