Kirby Smart Gives Update on Georgia Quarterback Situation Following First Scrimmage
The Bulldogs just wrapped up their first scrimmage of the off-season which means Kirby Smart has to address the media, he got some questions about the quarterback competition and gave some answers.
On Carson Beck:
“Carson has really good command of the offense. He understands it inside and out. He communicates it, gets things correct. He had a couple of poor decisions and choices today, but he also made some plays. He made some really good throws. He has really good presence in the pocket to move around.”
On Brock Vandagriff:
“Brock made some plays. He made some plays getting out of the pocket. He made some good throws. He had a couple of downfield throws I think he wished he had back, give us a chance in some 50-50 situations and keep the ball in bounds with that, but he did a really good job in two minute.”
On Gunner Stockton:
“Gunner made some plays. Gunner made some plays with his feet. He’s still, the administration of the offense and getting everybody lined up, getting going, getting the call in, which is not all on him. He’s growing and getting better. He made some nice throws.”
Based on what Smart has said so far, it sounds nothing different from what we already know. Carson is further ahead of both Brock and Gunner. Beck’s arm is paying dividends early and it is showing. Brock is a great athlete and is turning some heads with his legs. Gunner is just a gamer. He has so much talent that it’s hard to ignore him. He is behind in the battle, but Smart continues to preach that this is an open battle. With G-Day only two weeks away we are getting closer to seeing all these players in action.
