Keys To a Win: Georgia vs Alabama

It’s finally here folks! Georgia will take on Alabama, this Saturday for a chance at the SEC Championship. The Dawgs and Tide are no strangers to each other. The Crimson Tide has had the Dawgs number for the past couple of years, but this year feels a bit different from those meetings. The Georgia Bulldogs have clearly been the most dominant team in college football all season long. They have outscored their opponents this season 488-83. The Dawgs defense allowed an average of just 6.9 points a game in the regular season, while the offense averaged 40.7 points a game. Now that you guys have all the details let’s take a look at what the Dawgs will need to do if they want to win on Saturday.

Pressure on Bryce Young

This is probably very obvious, but the Dawgs must get consistent pressure on Bryce Young throughout the whole game on Saturday. Auburn gave Dan Lanning the game plan on Saturday. I expect the Dawgs to dial-up multiple blitz calls left and right. Bryce Young struggled with the blitz the whole game against the Tigers last weekend. I would imagine that Dan Lanning will send different players to blitz from different packages too. A disguised blitz package could be used very often next weekend. I think putting Nakobe Dean in that position would be the best decision.

Contain the offensive weapons

It's no secret that the Tide have some dangerous weapons that they can use against the Dawgs. Jameson Williams is the main guy who will try to take the top off of your defense. You also can’t forget about John Metchie either. I think one way the Dawgs will try to limit the big play is to play the same zone Clemson used against the Dawgs in the season opener. Clemson's two safeties played very far back that whole game and the Dawgs weren't able to get behind them. If the Dawgs do in fact do something similar to this then the key thing will be tackling. If the Dawgs keep everything in front of them then they will need to be able to tackle in space and get the receivers down before they have a chance to make a big play.

Get Stetson in a rhythm early

This might be the number one thing the Dawgs must do in order to win this game. I think most of us would agree that Stetson has had an up and down season. Some games he is on and some games he has been off. If we take a look at some of the games where he has played his best ball it comes when he is able to find his rhythm in the first couple of drives. Todd Monken most definitely knows this and I think that he will dial up some easy 5-7 yard routes to make sure Stetson is as comfortable as he can be in this game. If Stetson gets his confidence up and establishes his throwing arm then the Dawgs will feel very good about this game.
