Georgia Basketball: Former VCU Forward Announces His Commitment

Mike White and his staff have been in heavy pursuit of some of the top transfers this offseason to try and bolster their roster. On Saturday morning they did just that when former VCU forward Jalen Deloach announced his commitment to UGA. DeLoach is listed as 6’9, 215. Last season as a sophomore he averaged 9.7 ppg and 6.9 rebs.

DeLoach released his initial top schools list in early April and it consisted of Florida State, San Diego State, VCU, Miami (FL), Indiana, and Penn State. Georgia was not originally included in the top six but Mike White and his staff got involved once they got Deloach on a visit.

In an interview with 247 Sports, he was asked about what he will bring to the school of his choice, and this was his response, “Whichever team I choose is getting a high-motor, highly-skilled four-man with a motor that never stops,” DeLoach said. “I also rebound the ball really well on defense and offense, and I’m an overall leader.” He was also asked why he chose Georgia. "I chose Georgia because I believe in the plan that Mike White and his staff have for me," DeLoach told 247Sports' Travis Branham. "They recruited me the hardest throughout this whole process and I felt like it was home here. I'm ready to put Georgia basketball back on the map and make a big run inside the NCAA tournament next year and also win an SEC championship."

Jalen DeLoach joins RJ Melendez as the second transfer portal commit to join this Georgia recruiting class. Mike White and his staff are also bringing in two top 100 players in Mari Jordan and Dylan James.
